‘The machine moves close-to-imperceptibly slowly. It pushes paint through a chamber to then fall onto the floor and it winches itself up at the same time. In an International Symposium dedicated to new forms of art writing, Claire Nichols presents work and research around the EGIs at The Art Text, under the header – Anticipating the Archive: The Fate of The Empty Gallery Interviews.
The presentation will explore the figure of the archive present in the project. The immanence of the archive will be addressed through a consideration both of the form of the exhibitions that are anticipated in the Interviews, and a reflection on the destiny of the edited collection of interviews as aural and physical artefacts. The affiliated complex of representation will haunt the presentation as it chases and defers questions of the ‘whole’; the ‘whole exhibition’, the ‘whole interview’, that pertain to The Empty Gallery Interviews.
